New Research on the Economics of Commercial Sex Markets
Abstract
This session will review an economic approach to commercial sex markets by considering recent research on the economics of prostitution. Dr. Lotspeich will make brief remarks regarding economic methodology to provide a backdrop for considering this research before summarizing the analytical frameworks and conclusions of four recent papers by other economists. He will also discuss his own paper on appropriate interventions to reduce human trafficking into sex work. It is hoped that conference participants will find the economic approach to understanding sex markets helpful in pursuing their policy and social work objectives.
