Nature of Human Trafficking in Bangladesh
Abstract
Trafficking is a global problem both for the recipient country and the trafficked country. It has now reached an alarming proportion, which calls for concerted action. It is a recognized fact that trafficking is not only a violation of human rights but also a threat to development. Poverty is one of the major causes of trafficking. Illiteracy, unemployment and poor governance in the relevant areas are other causes for this crime. Mostly third world countries face this problem. It is a billion dollar business too. The present study attempts the nature of trafficking in Bangladesh & its flows in South Asia, causes of trafficking in Bangladesh, conceptual framework of the trafficking process, various routes routes of trafficking in Bangladesh, trafficking and health consequences of the victims and finally some possible future intervention against trafficking.
